Today was the first full day of our second caravan. We lined up at 8 am to drive to the cog train that goes up to Pikes Peak. We encountered a wreck on the highway so we missed the 9:20 train but we got on the 10:40 train. It is an hour ride to the top of Pikes Peak at 14,110 feet above sea level. The tracks are at a 25% grade in a couple of places. If you wanted to drive it is about 20 miles and takes over an hour. Last month they had the race called the Pikes Peak Hill Climb. The winner did the climb in 8 minutes.
We had rain all night and the surrounding communities which have had forest fires recently were concerned about flash floods. It turned out that neither of the ones close to us had any. Last week there was a flash flood in Manitou Springs which is were the cog railroad starts. You could still see sand bags in front of the stores in town.
It was drizzling and very cloudy this morning so it was hard to get good pictures from the moving train. After the ride on the cog train we had lunch at the trading post at the Garden of the Gods. We then drove through the park and looked at all the rock formations. Most of them are very reddish in color.
WE then went back up the Mountain and visited Manitou Springs. The last few pictures are of the river by the RV park. The dam had a lot of water going over it. By tomorrow there probably won't be any.
