Travels continue

8-39-30

We are currently in Silver Lake Michigan. where there is a large sand dune area you can drive in. More on that later. It is cool and rainy today but expected to get nicer.
Back to our summer travels. We left St. Charles, MO. on May 26th and traveled to Arrow Rock, MO. We toured historic Arrow rock. We had a cookout that evening. The next day we traveled to Platte, MO. We had dinner at the RV park. They next day we toured the WWI museum in Kansas city. The museum was recently renovated and is very nice. We then took a bus tour of Kansas City. We visited a landmark called the Lewis and Clark lookout. We toured a museum devoted to the steam boat Arabia. This steam boat sank in th Missouri River loaded with supplies for the many  ports on the river. As time went along the course of the river changed by a couple of miles at the location where the boat sank. A family thought the could find the boat and got permission from the farmer whose land they thought it was on to dig for it. After a large deep excavation they found the boat and have recovered many of the things from the boat. The items have to be carefully restored. They have hundreds of artifacts including guns, clothes, shoes, tools and pots and pans.
You an see many of these  items in the pictures. The father told us about the tremendous task it has been to get to this point. I asked him if he had considered going after another ship. he said they were trying to raise the money.
We then toured the Hallmark Company.
While in Platte city we traveled to Independence, MO. There we took a wagon tour of the city, toured the Bingham Waggon Estate and Harry Truman Library. we also visit St. Joseph,MO. where we toured the Pony Express Museum and saw the house where Jesse James was killed.

Enough for now, need to attach the pictures.
