Philadelphia

6-28-2012

We arrived at Quakerwoods Campground Wednesday about 1PM. The roads we took were a definite change from the expressways we have been on. We were concerned that the narrow two lane road we were on might be the wrong road even though the navigation system said it was  the right one. The deciding factor was that all the semi-trucks were on the same narrow road. The trip was only 80 miles so 45 miles on narrow curvy roads was tolerable. Today we drove down to Philadelphia  to take a walking tour of the historic sites. The traffic going was bad enough into the city but the traffic coming home at 5PM was like driving in Miami at 5PM. We'll take the narrow roads over the bumper to bumper traffic anytime.

We saw a number of the historic buildings such as Independence Hall, Carpenters Hall, Betsy Ross's house, Constitution Hall and Congress Hall. We visited Christ Cemetery, where Ben Franklin is buried, Federal Reserve Bank and the US Mint. Christ Church which is shown in the pictures has been having services continuously since the 1600's.
