Heading West

7-23-2012

We left Back Bear campground on Sunday for the Bonny Rigg Camping club in Becket, MA. We had difficulties with the GPS and the new traffic pattern in Westfield and drove an extra 10 to 15 miles on narrow country roads. But, we finally got on the right road which turned out to be a narrow hilly road with a lot of curves and three places with single lane traffic due to bridge construction. The campground is not one we will go back to. Met some nice people though. This morning we left there for Treasure Isle Campground in Blossvale, NY. We called the campground for the best route since the GPS route was questionable. These directions were 10 miles further but on better roads. We were with in 4 miles of the campground when we came to a fire truck and they had the road closed due to a wreck. It seems a logging truck was rounding a curve when it had a tire blowout and rolled over. We were on a two lane county road so it wasn't possible to turn around at that location. They told us it could be 2 to 3 hours to get the road open. It happens that the local water treatment plant had an entrance just past the fire truck. The fireman got an employee to come from some where and open the gate so we were able to go in and turn around. We managed to find a different route to the campground but we got here an hour and a half later than expected. Finding places to turn our rig around reminds me of the song where the guy says "just give me a 40 acre field". We have turned around in some tight places. Considering some of the country roads we have been on it hasn't been too bad.
There are sure a lot of hills and curves in New York.
