Suwanee State Park was very nice. The river is very beautiful. The town of Ellaville use to be where the park is on the bank of the river where the Withlacoochee River flows into the Suwanee. you can still see the mounds built during the Civil War by the Confederates to defend the RR bridge across the river. The river was an important trade route for steam boats. a few old parts are shown in the pictures.

Within the Suwanee river State Park is the Columbus Cemetery but it was limited to whites. The county had a Columbus Cemetery for blacks. There black cemetery was in really bad shape but there was a grave of a black woman from April of this year.
