We left home on Monday 7-14 and drove to Hot Springs Arkansas where we spent two nights. Tuesday we toured the city of Hot Springs. In the late 1800's people began coming to Hot Springs for the therapeutic value of the natural hot springs found there. Bath houses sprang up along the main street. The original wooden bath houses burned down during a big fire. Then fancy new ones were built. The bath houses are in bath house row on the main street in town. Many of the original bath houses are still there and one has been in continuous operation since 1909. Bath house row is now part of the Hot Springs National Park. There are a number of fountains in town where people bring their water jugs to fill with the natural hot spring water.
There is a tower on top of the mountain in the park. The mountain is about 400 feet above the city and the tower is 216 feet tall. The views from the top of the tower were awesome, you could 143 miles. We followed the recommendation of the lady at the camp ground and found a small barbecue restaurant that great barbecue ribs.
Wednesday we drove 400 miles to Nashville Tennessee. Thursday we toured an old mansion called Travelers Rest. Troops camped there for two weeks before the battle of Nashville during the Civil war. We then had lunch at B.B. Kings downtown. from there we toured the Tennessee State Museum. Lots of history and great exhibits.Friday we drove the last 150 miles to Campbellsville Kentucky where Deb,Clay and Blake live.
Friday night Debbie fixed a very good dinner. Before dinner we munched on a salsa she made entirely from things she grew in her garden, the salsa was very good and we had a home made chip dip that also was very good. For dinner we had home made potato soup, country ham, cornbread and green fried tomatoes. It was a delicious dinner.
Saturday we toured the local state park and corp of engineers park on the Green river reservoir. We als toured the trail used by everyone to cross the Green River. We will be here tomorrow also and then head toward home.
