Catching up on our travels

9-1-2014

Since our last post we visited Flagstaff Arizona, Las Vegas Nevada, Pahrump Nevada, where we started our 33 day tour of the Sw national parks, Death Valley Zion National Park and e are know at Wahweap RV resort on lake Powell in Arizona/ Utah.

In Flagstaff we visited the falls on the Little Colorado River. This required a drive on a dirt road on the Indian Reservation which was not maintained. The river is really muddy which you can see in the pictures. We visited a pioneer museum which was a hospital for the indigent in the 1800's. We toured the historic downtown area. I am now taking pictures of ghost signs in these historic areas.  fun to look for.

From Flagstaff we drove to a nice campground in Las Vegas. We never made it to the strip but we did visit a casinos near the camp ground. I didn't mention but we had visited a few casinos before Vegas. We visited Hoover Dam and Red Rock Canyon. We watched some climbers climb on the shear rock.

Las Vegas

From Vegas we drove to Pahrump Nevada to catch up with our tour group. They are a great group and we have been having a lot of fun with them, I can tell you that from the flat lands in Texas to to the mountains where we are now has been quite a drive. We have been as high as 9000 feet and as low as 268 feet below sea level in death valley. Most of the trip has been hot and dry.
We have had limited internet since we left Vegas so it has been difficult to keep up.

Our first tour with our group was a bus tour through Death Valley. We visited a place called Scotty.s Castle. The next day we drove to Zion National Park. On the way we drove through the Valley of Fire. The red rocks were beautiful.

Zion National Park has tremendous views. We took a two mile hike into the mountains. The next day we went to the Peach Festival in Hurricane and toured the Pioneer Museum. In the afternoon we took a 30 mile trip that was mostly off road through the area..

The next day we drove to Lake Powell in Arizona. There were some steep up hill and steep down hill grades with winding roads on the trip. We got here on Sunday and went off roading with another couple. We drove about 15 miles into the area that was part of the ocean 900 million years ago. The trip was a lot of fun. Judy is getting into the off road driving.Today we took a 6 1/2 hour boat ride on Lake Powell to see the Rainbow Bridge.
