Grand Canyon South Rim

Today we drove to the Sky City Casino RV Park in New Mexico. Tomorrow we got in to Albuquerque for the ballon festival. Back to our trip.

We drove 224 miles from Bluff Utah to Grand Canyon Arizona. There was a lot of steep hills, both up and down. Bluff was at 4324 feet and the South Rim is 7000 feet. So you can see we had to climb 2700 feet. The canyon is 215 miles long, a mile deep and as much as 18 miles wide.

Today we took a guided bus tour to a number of the observation  points. We spent the afternoon exploring some of he other view points.The size of the canyon is difficult to explain  and i don't think the pictures will show how big it really is. The views are absolutely breath taking.

We went to an Imax theater and watched a movie about John Wesley Powell who was the first person to travel the Colorado river through the canyon.The rapids were large and they had a difficult time. The movie was really good. We spent the rest of the da exploring the various shops and buildings.

You will see that we had Elk wandering around the camp ground. They paid no attention to the people. It is mating season and there was a bik male elk following 6 females around.
