11-2-2014

First I want to encourage everyone to vote on Tuesday. Your vote does count. The first group of pictures is from the tram up to Sandia Peak in Albuquerque. This is reported to be the longest tram in the country. The view from the top was awesome. you could see a hundred miles or more.

The pictures below are from Winslow Arizona made famous by the Eagles song "Take it easy", with the lyric Standing on the corner in Winslow Arizona,

The next group of pictures is from the Meteor Crater where a meteor hit the earth thousands of years ago.The crater is really large and the history was documented in the museum. The crater and museum are still owned by descendents of the man who worked for years to prove the crater was created by a meteor.

The next group of pictures is from Sky City Indiana Reservation. There is a group of indians living on top of a mesa without electricity or running water. They haul their water up to the top of the mesa which is 300 feet above the valley floor. This village is the longest occupied indiana village since it was originally settled in 500 A.D. Our guide is a member of the Acona tribe and was very knowledgeable on the history, We were not allowed to take pictures of the church or the cemetery. The current graves that are visible are the 4th layer. The indians were forced to build the church by the Spanish. For centuries the Indians climbed to the top of the mesa using hand holes up the side.It wasn't until the 1900's that a gravel road was built upto the top by a movie company in exchage for being allowed to make a movie.

The next pictures are from Santa Fe NM. We took a bus tour there during the balloon festival.

The next group of pictures is from the last stop on our trip.It is Palo Duro Canyon which is 30 miles south of Amarillo Texas. This canyon is supposedly second in size to the Grand Canyon. It is 18 miles wide at the widest point and over 180 miles long. We enjoyed the canyon since you can drive to the bottom and then through about 10 miles of the canyon. The canyon is only 800 feet dep which is not deep compared the the 5000 feet of the Grand Canyon. There was a car show going on the day we were there.

The next group of pictures is from a Munster that Keith and I attende in east Texas.

That's all for now, we are at home and catching up on the chores. We don't plan on going any place until next February when we are going to South Padre Island. In looking back over our trip it was a great trip.
