2015 Travels begin

5-16-2015

We left home on Wednesday, May 13 and traveled to the Cedar Valley RV Park, in Guthrie,OK, which is about 25 miles north of Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. We spent Thursday and Friday touring Oklahoma City. We started with the Federal Building memorial which is very nice. From there we visited the railroad museum which has a number of passenger cars and a very old caboose.
Our next stop was the Fire Fighter Museum. They have a nice collection of old fire trucks and the first Oklahoma fire station is inside the museum. The next stop was the 45th Infantry Museum. This was a good size museum with nice inside displays and trucks and planes outside.
The National Cowboy and Western Heritage  Museum was our next stop. This is a very nice museum with great displays.
Friday we started with the Museum of Osteology. This is a skeleton museum. They had skeletons from all types of animals, fish and humans. The skeletons were very nicely displayed. They had a skeleton of a rhino, giraffe, dolphin, whale as well as birds and many types of rodents. This entire display a private collection of one man. We the saw the milk bottle grocery which is just a small building with a big milk bottle on top. We the went to lower Brick Town which is a walkway along a canal. it is lined with many restaurants. We had lunch at Toby Keith's restaurant. the Put A Cork In It winery was on the canal. We didn't taste any as we didn't like the flavors they had. We finished our our tours with the American Banjo Museum. They covered the history of the banjo. They had many beautiful banjos.
Today we toured Guthrie. We walked through a dozen antique shops. Guthrie was the first capital of Oklahoma. There are many nicely restored buildins downtown.  They have a nice drugstore museum. We are now back in the park and resting for our trio to Joplin,Missouri tomorrow. We are watching the TV as there are severe weather storms in the area and there has been at least three tornadoes in western OK today.

  1. Great pictures, the fire truck restorations are pretty impressive and liked the foundry. Be safe on the road and careful in that weather!
