We have been here on South Padre Island for three weeks. There are a lot of people here for the winter from all over the country. One of the big attractions is driving on the beach, It is 28 miles from the entrance to the end of the island. Surf fishing is big also, we have been surf fishing a number of times. There are many great restaurants on the island and across the bridge in Port Isabel. We found oysters on the half shell for $.35 each. We have been to a great sea food buffet twice. Yesterday we went to a barbecue cook off. We were judges for the ribs and the brisket. We walked around and sampled fajitas and beans. All the meats are smoked. There were smokers of every size and shape.
Last week an aircraft carrier was brought through the inlet on its way to Brownsville to be scraped. The ship is a 1000 feet long.
Kite flying is a popular hobby here also. The kites are all sizes and shapes. There is a number of very
elaborate sand castles on the island.
